Shrink is great until it’s not.  Shrink designs tend to fail when harmonics build causing tuning fork effect.  Hard materials, interrupted cuts and gritty materials like cast iron can cause inconsistencies due to harmonics in the “shrunk together 1 piece holder”.

​Shrink collets bridge the gap providing the accuracy, the grip force and the chuck provides the mass and unlike materials to dampen the harmonics.  The bearing nut adds additional grip and vibration dampening compared to solid style ER nuts.
